Through the UC-Mexico initiative, UC supports academic and student exchanges and collaborates with Mexican universities, governmental agencies and foundations on projects in five areas: arts and culture, education, energy, the environment, and health.
UC President Janet Napolitano launched the UC-Mexico initiative in 2014 in recognition of the fact that many of the issues facing California also face Mexico, a neighbor with whom the state shares a rich history.
UC has long had academic ties to Mexico on most of its campuses – including everything from academic research centers to individual faculty collaborations and on-going student exchanges through UC Education Abroad.

The effort aligns with education policies in both the United States and Mexico, including the Binational Forum on Higher Education Innovation and Research. The framework, signed by the presidents of both countries, calls for increased research collaboration and academic exchange.
